Llewyn Máire

Llewyn Máire (pronounced: hClew-in Moi-a)
a Pandrogynous Celtic-North American Aktionist,
cofounder of the gyrl grip,
2 Gyrlz Performative Arts, and PAN!ZEN.

Máire's creative work manifests through live art/ performance activism, video & sound, movement, the intoned and spoken word, installactions, culture jamming, kut-ups, and daily life.

Thriving in the liminal spaces of gender, culture, life and death, Máire's work seeks to expose, challenge and explore the constructs of identity, the mediation of socio-cultural experiences, and the influence of power.

Máire has made and exhibited work throughout the "United" States, Canada, and Europe for over 20 years. Máire's most recent solo actions include the dance-driven experimental live electrix project kAbbage, imaging exhibits of "TOI", and the butô-tai* durational installaction "define me where I pea".

In addition to collaborative work with Lisa Newman in the gyrl grip, Máire collaborates extensively with various musical ensembles, and makes butô with Insomnia Butô of the Cirque Noir ensemble Societas Insomnia.

From organizing happenings on the streets of New Orleans, to teknival/sound system/free festivals, to inter-media events and festivals on America's West Coast; Llewyn Máire has dedicated more than 15 years to facilitating and creating art on a multiversal community level.
Self-schooling in the arts of sound, stage, and media engineering, as well as being a lifelong performance activist, musician and visual artist, enables Máire a unique insight into, and a great passion for the performative act.

In addition to co-founding/directing 2 Gyrlz, Máire actualized the Trans/Identity Resource Centre at Outside In, is Cofounder and a key organizer in PAN-ZEN, co-directed the Akari Morpheus Collective, aided in presenting experimental music and performance with Zenflesh (in New Orleans), and has committed various deeds with several political and spiritual cultes and movements for over two decades.
